SAT-SETs are cast of virtually indestructable Poly-Carbonate. They have, inside, an adjustable spirit level bubble, and a fixed (transverse) level to make sure that the inclination which you are measuring is down the steepest slope of the surface, or plane, that you are using for reference. They have strong (up to 7-G's) magnets along both sides. Their operating range is about 50 miles around their pre-set location. You can quickly set them (and/or reset, as often as you like, in new areas) from a dish which is satisfactoraly receiving the desired satellite, or we can iniitally pre-set them for you.
AZ/EL Mount Orientation (using a Sat-Set or an ARC-SET's EXTREME/ZENITH):
Set the ELevation to center the bubble in a SAT-SET (along the Feed Support, generally in
the "Look Direction"); or, to center the bubble in either the ZENITH, or EXTREME sections
of an ARC-SET (along the Face Slope, parallell to the plane of symmetry containing the
Feed) -- and then turn the Dish in Azimuth until our CANARY (SPECTRUM ANALY"ZZZ"ER) sings
its loudest. On symmetrical,
center-fed, Dishes the "ELEV
ANGL" (as listed on our
OPTIMUM "POLAR" ALIGNMENT
ANALYSIS) is used in pre-setting
SAT-SETs, and the
"EXTRM SLOPE" is used (for
this application) in setting
either an EXTREME, or ZENITH
section from an ARC-SET. On
off-set Dishes, mounted AZ/EL
with the ELevation measured
in the plane of symmetry which contains the Feed,
the off-set angles are added to
the "EXTRM SLOPE" values.
If not already pre-set, you can set your SAT-SET's bubble (or the bubble in an EXTREME, or ZENITH section form an ARC-SET) by: loosening the slotted screw so that the adjustable bubble turns with your finger tips; placing the Tool in a reproducible position on a Dish which is identical to the one you will be using (and is already peaked on the Satellite which you will be seeking); centering the adjustable bubble; and tightening the slotted screw (re- check to be sure that tightening the screw did not shift the bubble).
Change will occur in Elevation
(the bubble shifts) if the Mount's
support, on which you turn in
Azimuth, is not precisely plumb.
This is not a major problem! As
long as the mount is solid/secure
you need only adjust the Elevation
to keep the bubble centered as you
turn on the non-plumb support.
Keeping the bubble centered will
bring you to the Satellite. Peak
the CANARY's song, then secure all.
