The Canary
- The SPECTRUM ANALY"ZZZ"ER (affectionately known as "The CANARY") is:
- Simple, Precise, Versatile, Durable, and Useful!
Connected between an LNB and Receiver (or battery power), it "sings" (makes noise)
to guide you in peaking the "IF" out-pout from your LNB (and thus maximizing your
Satellite Reception).
In peaking the Dish/Feed, the louder its song,
the stronger the Satellite Signal. The CANARY's
song uses your ears for bio-feedback as to the
signal changes due to your activities -- frees your
eyes to watch out for hazards. The CANARY's song
is loud enough for you to hear from the feed, as
you stand behind/beneath a big Dish (even with wind, wild birds' songs,
and traffic noise), with pitch sharp enough for even the hard-of-hearing.
- Simple:
- No knobs, switches, buttons or adjustments! Electronically
adjusts to a wide range of Signal Strength without requiring your touch.
- Precise:
- Sensitive to the subtlest shifts/changes in Dish orientation,
and Feed position -- whatever the size of the Dirsh, or strength of Satellite.
- Versatile:
- The CANARY works with Digital &
Analog; C-Band, Ku-Band & S-Band; World-wide
range of LNBs and Receivers; Largest
Dishes, to Smallest Horns and Flat Plates.
Comes with Jumper Cable long enough to reach
all the way down tose DSS Feed Arm Tubes.
- Durable:
- Its metal case, light weight, avoidance of fragile needle & selection of
shock-resistant circuit components, give it
stamina to survive harsh field use/abuse.
Reversing connections will not harm its
circuitry. Bright yellow body helps you find it; if you drop it in snow,
"Tall Grass" (it is a Jungle out there!), or the dark depths of your
Tool Box (Jungle in there too?). This Canary is a tough little bird!
- Useful:
- in "Polar" Mount alignment
(with your ARC SET, to peak Azimuth
turning to EXTREME Satellite, and to
confirm tracking on opposite ends of
the Arc); in AZ/EL Mount orientation
(with your SAT SET, to peak Azimuth,
and to check Elevation); to confirm
Feed placement; to trace Receiver's
power delivery; and to peak the
programming of an I.R.D.'s memory (a
piece of tape, over the Speaker -- or
using with a multi-meter, measuring
Amps DC, allows use inside the house
without the distraction of its song).
The CANARY's initial song confirms the arrival of power from the
Receiver (for the LNB). If there is no initial song, use The CANARY to
trace connections back to the Receiver and find/correct the power loss.
For those who want/need numbers, or a
needle's swing, the CANARY has The Karl
Fincke ports (it was his suggestion) for
a multi-meter's probes to measure the
Satellite Signal Strength in DC Volts
or Amps. NOTE: measuring Amps mutes the
CANARY's song, for use inside the house.
Why is The CANARY offered when there
are already many Signal Strength Meters
offered by others?
- Most of the existing devices will
break if/when dropped, hit, or abused!
- Most of the existing devices have
switches, buttons, and/or knobs which may
be in the wrong position (from the prior
use), and/or which require you to stop
what you are doing, to make adjustments.
- Many of the existing devices have
capabilities beyond what you need (just
peaking signals), and therefore are too
bulky, heavy, complex, and/or expensive.
